  8. entrepreneurs such as Andrew Carnegie, social
  9. Darwinism was used to legitimize competitive
  10. individualism and a market economy
  11. unregulated by government; it argued that
  12. only the strong and resourceful businesses
  13. and individuals would thrive in a free
  14. environment.
